It is a fact that a life-changing examination like the OET demands
your utmost concentration and preparation. This sometimes means that you need
to go over and beyond your habits. Aside from your preparations in your daytime
OET classes, you might want to spend an all-nighter to boost your training,
and some even prefer studying late at night instead of during the day because
of:
·
…lesser distractions at night;
·
…chores and errands have been done;
·
…fewer people awake meaning more quiet time; or
·
…you are just a night owl who functions more efficiently at night.
Whatever your reason, here are a few dos and don’ts that will be
quite useful for your late-night OET review.
LATE
NIGHT REVIEW DOS AND DON’TS
1.
Do
not stay in bed.
Beds are for sleeping. A table
and a chair are for studying. Simply put, if you stay in your bed to study, you
will eventually feel sleepy and fall into slumber in no time. An efficient
review needs the right environment. Fix your study table. Surround yourself
with your OET review online materials and sit up straight. Doing so
will keep your mind alert throughout your review.
2.
Do
take quick breaks or naps.
Studying all night will mean nothing if you crash and burn because
of exhaustion. Set breaks in-between your reviews. You can walk around your
room to stay awake, or you can take power naps to freshen your mind.
3.
Do
not eat junk food.
Yes, we all know the lure of the tasty, but junk food won’t help
you in your review. What you need are “smart” snacks. Items like candies,
chicken wings, sandwiches, etc., can quickly provide the calories you need.
Food items with lower calories like fruits, crackers, and a hot bowl of soup
are also advisable.
4.
Do
increase fluid intake.
Since we’re on the topic of food, it is essential to stay
hydrated. However, stick to water! Filling yourself up with energy drinks and
coffee is detrimental in the long run. Those drinks are rich in caffeine that
can cause heart palpitation, shortness of breath, and even anxiety.
ONE LAST ADVICE: Consistent studying will always be better than countless
late-night cramming. Ensure that you attend all your OET classes and get enough sleep. Passing
the OET is not worth endangering your health.
