When talking about procrastination during OET training, most people are in denial even if they have a test coming up, and instead of studying, they are playing with their phones. They know that they should be reviewing; they just don’t feel like doing it. 

A typical procrastinator wastes away time and crams their review later on. Don’t let procrastination take over your studying. Here are some tips you can adopt to avoid procrastination.

Stop punishing yourself for procrastinating
The first thing you need to do is to stop giving yourself a hard time for procrastinating. Accept that you have wasted time and move on. The more you are stressed out about the time lost, the more you will not get any studying done. Try imagining the future where you aced that test and focus on studying.

Break tasks into smaller chunks
There are instances when you have so many things to review in your OET review center, you feel overwhelmed, which results in you procrastinating and not studying. In those cases, try breaking down a difficult task to smaller parts. You could try using subcategories for each task like: “Listening,” “Speaking,” “Reading,” and “Writing,” and cross out a few of the list every day. 

Aim for completion, not perfection
Too much anxiety is exhausting. When you keep on aiming for perfection, you could tire yourself out and feel miserable. Imagine your future perfect essays, tests, quizzes, and learn to work with your best, and be confident in your answers. 

Remove distractions
Studying in a different environment can have an impact on your productivity. Pick a study place where there are limited distractions like the libraries, coffee shops, and bookstores. However, if you can’t handle not studying in the same space as your distracting gadgets, turn off your notifications except for text messages and calls. 

Reward yourself
Looking forward to a reward after completing your tasks can be a great motivation. If you have been studying for many hours, tell yourself you will get to celebrate with food or one of your favorite things after you finish studying. 

In the end, it all boils down to you taking action. Whatever it is you are procrastinating on, if you want to get anything done, you need to take the first step.
