then you must expand your vocabulary regarding transitional devices to help you
with your language difficulties. Using different methods in writing can
establish a link to you and the readers, making your writing more
effective.
There are instances when you
can’t get your message across because you don’t know the right words to connect
your ideas. To help you with this barrier, here are some cohesive devices you
can use to relay your ideas clearly and smoothly. Let us look at these devices
one by one.
Synonyms
In any OET review
center, synonyms are often used to avoid repeating the same word to
convey your point. Since synonyms are words that have the same meaning, it can
help the reader stay focused on the idea that you are trying to explain. An
example of synonym is Good –
Nice – Fine – Right – Well.
Pronoun
These are words that substitute a
noun. However, when using pronouns, make sure that what you are referring to,
which is called an antecedent, is clear. Commonly used pronouns are “that,”
“this,” “those,” and “these.”
Transitional Words
These are words that show a
relationship between ideas. However, using a wrong transitional word may
confuse your reader more. Here are some transitional words that you may use.
